Notes for "Social Media Talk" for the Growing Churches Conference

Social Media Talk
"Growing Churches" Event
March 7th, 2012

1.  Social Media is not just a passing fad.

- “But we must understand what people want from us there…”

2.  The Key to All Marketing, & certainly Social Media is “ADDING VALUE.”
         * Interruption Marketing vs. Value Adding Marketing.
       * NOISE VS. BUZZ:
                  - Noise – Someone talking about your brand.
                  - Buzz – Someone having a Positive Conversation about your brand.

       * A Few Questions:
              ? What are you contributing that adds value?
              ? Why should they care?

3.  A few practical tips for a Healthy Social Media Presence.
         A. Think Holistic in your approach.

         B. Pick a lane & commit to it.

         C. You are in control of access, just like in every other area of your life.

         D. Social Media is an extension of who you already are.

"Social Media can be a tool for life-change if we’ll not fear it, or resist it, but instead authentically embrace it."

Hey Matt! I attended your talk at Velocity and loved it! Really got us thinking about buzz. I wanted to know if you had any thoughts on where/how to obtain a Red Box gift certificate? You had mentioned the popcorn boxes for the preschools and we were going to do something similar. Any help you have would be great.

You can email if you'd rather to bobby@ridgechurchonline.com. Thanks!

I couldn't agree more with your comment that it is an excellent tool for sharing the gospel not only across #SWFL but across the world!! I always take note of people that tweet a lot and noticed the other day that I was being followed (and had returned the favor) of a atheist. When I looked more into this gentleman's profile I was astonished to discover that he had more than 20,000 followers. 20,0000+ people that were subject to his hate speech about the church and about Christians. It was an opportunity to pray for this gentleman but also to realize that as believers we MUST use this tool of social media to spread the truth and love about Christ and the church He has called his people to be.
